A festive night in Chenoa Sunday jump-started the holiday season with a visit from Santa and the lighting of the downtown gazebo.
The evening started with the traditional lighted Christmas parade that traveled down Lincoln after leaving the Chenoa Fire Station. Santa rode at the end of the parade with children and adults lining the route to catch a glimpse of the entries which included emergency vehicles and decorated cars and trucks.
Santa and his elf got out near the downtown gazebo to visit with children and get pictures taken.
“I’m going up to the gazebo and going to walk around front to shake hands, say hi to the kids then do the lighting ceremony,” Santa said.
The VFW was open for those attending the warm up with hot chocolate and cookies.
A group from Christ Community Church in Chenoa sang Christmas carols near the gazebo while the glow of a small fire in the middle of the street kept those waiting for Santa warm.
This year's Letters to Santa box is at a new location this year at the water bill drop off just outside of the police station's door on Weir Street.
