Obituary: Harms


Stephen W. Harms, 72, of Chenoa, passed away at 2:05 am, Monday, December 12, 2022, at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.


Cremation rites have been accorded with a family celebration of his life at a later date. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be directed to Chenoa Fire Dept., Chenoa.


Mr. Harms was born April 15, 1950, in Bloomington; the son of Elmer and Dorothy (Barber) Harms. He married Joanne Schuler on February 26, 1989, in Marseilles. His wife, Joanne, survives in Chenoa. His parents, two sisters, Ginger Stuckemeyer and Mary Harms; and one daughter, Gloria Gadberry preceded him in death.


Other survivors include three children, Debbie (Chuck) Friant of Dixon; Diana (Dillon) Prendergast of Fairbury; Troy (Michelle) Schuler of Chenoa; one brother, Lindy (Cheryl) Harms of Bloomington; one brother in-law, Calvin Stuckemeyer of Florida; eleven grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.


Stephen was a graduate of Chenoa High-school and received a bachelor’s degree in English at Illinois State University, Normal. He took over the family business; Harms Home Furnishings in Chenoa; shortly after graduating from ISU. In retirement he enjoyed working part-time, as a greeter at Sam’s Club in Normal.
