Lester J. Barnes 83, of Chenoa passed away at 6:36 pm, Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at his residence in Chenoa.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa with burial to follow in Chenoa Township Cemetery, Chenoa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral also at the funeral home in Chenoa on Saturday.
Lester was born May 6, 1939 in Gridley the son of Floyd and Geneva (Breeze) Barnes. He married Charlotte E. Newkirk on June 8, 1962 in Pontiac. She preceded him in death on September 26, 2011. His parents, two sisters, Betty Reynolds & Vonna Lorrance and one brother, Dale Barnes also preceded him in death.
Survivors include three sons, Bill (Shirl) Barnes of Chenoa; Gailen Barnes of Columbus, OH; James Barnes of Chenoa; two daughters, Amy (Greg) Pfeifer of Dwight; and Dawn Barnes of Chenoa; one brother, Ronald (Pat) Barnes of St. Petersburg, FL; ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Lester was raised in Fairbury and graduated from Fairbury-Cropsey Highschool. He was employed for over 38 years at Nussbaum Trucking Inc., Normal. Upon retiring, he enjoyed watching farm and tractor shows on TV. He also enjoyed working out in his yard, tinkering in the garage but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family; who will miss him deeply.
