If you are a fan of playing sports, there’s a new place in Chenoa for you.
Sportz Rec & Practice Center has opened at 500 North Division Street.
“The idea is to try and contribute to the community in the sports practice area so that kids and even adults can come in and practice with the batting cages, the boxing, volleyball and multi-use gym,” explains owner Tim Barlow.
Barlow and his wife experienced the building, formerly known as The Depot, sitting empty for a year and were focused on putting something in it to help the community.
“We’ve been fortunate enough to be playing this stuff as we are building so we kind of know it pretty well,” admits Barlow.
Other highlights include a golf simulator and pickle ball court.
The business can be found on Facebook along with a complete listing of the activities offered. They also have an app for Android and Apple with information on membership fees.
“We are doing monthly and daily rates,” Barlow explained.
Customers can come and go as they please for $30 a month or schedule times on the app for the golf simulator and gym with a daily rate of $15. Barlow feels the spot is perfect for a child’s birthday party and pretty reasonable too.
You can pay online, scan your phone and you get in the door.
A soft opening was held over the weekend along with a ribbon cutting ceremony from the Chenoa Economic Development Committee.
The Sportz Rec & Practice Center will be open Monday through Sunday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. this month and hours will be adjusted and likely expanded next month. They are working their way to being open 24 hours.
