Mayor Chris Wilder and commissioners expressed opposition to Senate Bill 684 during Tuesday’s Chenoa City Council Meeting.
This would expand the tax base of the Central Illinois Regional Airport Authority to include all of McLean County and not just Bloomington-Normal.
“The Bloomington-Normal airport does nothing for Chenoa,” said Wilder.
Wilder indicated the Airport Authority tried this years ago and now the matter has resurfaced. The state decided to put this into a shell bill and pass it through the Senate. A vote was expected as soon as Wednesday in Springfield and the Farm Bureau is even discouraging the legislature from passing it.
“We don’t want them to raise our taxes.”
Witness slips are available for members of the public to fill out, according to Wilder.
