A new spot in historic downtown Chenoa offers something to look at, think about and dream about.
The Cubbyhole Shop is now open at 217-B South Green Street with plenty of curiosities packed into 400 square feet. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held last week by the Chenoa Economic Development Committee.
“It’s either vintage or antique or it’s new and quirky and novel,” explains owner J.E. Myers. “The word curiosity is what we are all about, we want people to come in here.”
Time literally stops at the shop since none of the clocks work right and they encourage customers to stop in and look at, touch and feel the items. A sign even says if you break something, they don’t care. A backstory is told for some of the items with a little information card.
“We have cookies to share and we are talkative,” adds Myers.
Myers has a background in retail business as owner of Old Warehouse Antiques in Bloomington and followed that up with Alley Cats in Bloomington. Myers always walked by the space and wanted to do something with it.
“I have a background in theater and it’s a show, that’s the way we run it.”
The Cubbyhole Shop provides the music, players and props while visitors come in and wander around. They are open Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10 to 5 and the hours may be expanded when the weather gets nicer.
More information can be found on the Facebook page, “Cubbyhole Shop.”
“Putting on this kind of show is just in my blood,” admits Myers.
